Technical FAQs for CALIFIA® Software

1. Why is my software not communicating with my CALIFIA® Patient Module (CPM)?

If your software is not communicating with the CPM, check the following:

  1. Connections – Ensure your Ethernet adapter or docking station is properly connected. Verify that the Califia is powered on and correctly hooked up to your laptop either directly or via an Ethernet adapter/docking station.
  2. IP Configuration – Check this article for configuring your IP address: Click Here.
  3. Ethernet Adapter – Replace the Ethernet adapter if it’s faulty, then repeat step two.

2. Can I use the CALIFIA® software to create scenarios without connecting the CALIFIA® Patient Module?

Yes! You can use SIM Mode to create scenarios from anywhere without needing to connect the CPM. In SIM Mode, you will use:

  • A virtual ECMO cart for ECMO or a virtual HLM for CPB
  • A virtual level to set the desired CVP

3. Can I use scenarios created in SIM Mode on the CPM?

Yes, scenarios created in SIM Mode are fully compatible with CPM Mode.

4. Can I use the CALIFIA® Software on my MacBook?

The Califia software is only compatible with Windows. However, you can purchase a CALIFIA® on the Cloud license to access a virtual machine with the software pre-installed. Note that this setup only supports SIM Mode and will not work with the CPM.

5. Can I control the Instructor Panel or CALIFIA® Software using my smartphone or iPad?

Yes! You can use Splashtop, a free utility, to control the CALIFIA® computer from your smartphone or tablet. Please see the attached guide on setting up Splashtop on both your phone and the CALIFIA® computer. Click Here

6. Can multiple users work on the same scenario simultaneously?

No, CALIFIA® Patient Module and Software do not currently support real-time collaboration on the same scenario. However, you can share scenario files with colleagues who can load them into their own CALIFIA® software for further modifications.

7. How do I transfer scenarios from one computer to another?

You can transfer scenarios using the following methods:

  • Save the scenario file on a USB drive and copy it to the new computer.
  • Use a cloud storage service (e.g., Google Drive, OneDrive) to upload and download the scenario files.
  • If using CALIFIA® on the Cloud, scenarios can be stored and accessed from the virtual machine.

8. Why am I experiencing lag or slow performance while using Califia?

There are a few factors that may cause performance issues:

  • Check that your laptop meets the recommended system requirements for CALIFIA®. (if not purchased from us)
  • Ensure no other heavy applications are running in the background.
  • If using CALIFIA® on the Cloud, ensure you have a stable and fast internet connection.
  • Restart your computer and try again. If the issue persists, reach out to Biomed Simulation support.
